Herbal Calendula and Chamomile Sugar Scrub

Herbal Calendula and Chamomile Sugar Scrub

There is something deeply satisfying about making simple body care products with herbs you already know and trust. Over time, I’ve learned that our skin responds best to gentle, nourishing ingredients, especially when they come straight from the apothecary shelf or pantry. This calendula chamomile sugar scrub is one of those recipes I keep coming back to. It’s soothing, deeply moisturizing, and easy to make, yet it feels like such a treat.

Because both calendula and chamomile are known for their calming, skin-loving properties, this scrub is especially helpful during dry seasons, after long days working with your hands, or anytime your skin needs a little extra care.

Why I Love This Calendula Chamomile Sugar Scrub

First of all, this scrub is incredibly gentle. Unlike many store-bought exfoliants that can leave skin feeling tight or irritated, this one softens while it exfoliates. The sugar buffs away dry skin, while the infused oils sink in and leave everything feeling calm and nourished.

In addition, I love that this recipe uses herbs I already infuse regularly. It’s a beautiful way to turn everyday herbal preparations into something practical and luxurious without needing complicated ingredients.

Calendula and Chamomile Benefits for Skin

Before jumping into the recipe, it helps to understand why these herbs work so well together.

Calendula

Calendula has long been one of my go-to herbs for skin care. It’s gentle, supportive, and especially helpful for dry, sensitive, or irritated skin.

Chamomile

Chamomile, on the other hand, brings both physical and emotional calm. Not only does it soothe the skin, but its soft scent makes this scrub feel grounding and comforting to use.

Together, they create a scrub that feels supportive rather than harsh.

Chamomile-Infused Coconut Oil Benefits

Chamomile-infused coconut oil forms one half of the nourishing base for this scrub. Coconut oil helps lock in moisture and gives the scrub its creamy texture once melted and mixed.

I infuse chamomile into coconut oil because chamomile is known for its calming, soothing qualities. It’s especially helpful for skin that feels reactive, dry, or stressed. Before mixing, I gently melt the coconut oil so everything blends smoothly.

Calendula-Infused Olive Oil Benefits

Calendula-infused olive oil is the second half of the oil base, and it brings a deeply nourishing, restorative quality to the scrub. Olive oil is rich and gentle, making it an excellent carrier for calendula.

Calendula is often used to support skin repair and comfort, which is why I reach for it so often in salves, lotions, and scrubs. Using it here helps balance exfoliation with moisture.

This oil is made the same way as any herbal infusion, and I like to keep a jar on hand for multiple recipes.

Super Fine Sugar for Gentle Exfoliation

Super fine sugar is the exfoliant in this recipe. It gently removes dead skin cells without being too abrasive. Because the grains are small, it works well even on more sensitive areas when used gently.

Sugar is also a natural humectant, meaning it helps draw moisture into the skin, which pairs beautifully with the infused oils.

Optional Essential Oils for Skin Support

Essential oils are completely optional in this scrub, but they do add another layer of support and aroma.

For this batch, I used: – Blue tansy for its calming and skin-supportive properties – Roman chamomile to deepen the soothing effect and tie in with the infused oil

Other gentle options include lavender or frankincense, depending on what you have on hand or what your skin prefers.
