Materials

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 2 to 3 star anise pods
  • 1 tablespoon cardamom pods
  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice
  • 2 tablespoons dried eucalyptus leaves
  • 2 dried orange slices
  • 1 tsp Orris root powder optional

Instructions

Mixing the Ingredients

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and gently stir to blend the warm spices and citrus together. The mix of cinnamon, star anise, and orange peel makes the perfect scent for this time of year.

Adding Essential Oils

  • Add a few drops of orange or clove essential oil to strengthen the fragrance. Toss the mixture lightly so the oils coat everything evenly.

Using Orris Root Powder

  • If you have orris root powder, add a pinch to help the scent last longer. It’s a simple way to preserve the fragrance in your dried potpourri for a couple of weeks.

Storing and Displaying

  • Transfer the mixture to a mason jar or airtight container and let it rest for a couple days before using. Once ready, pour it into open bowls or glass jars around your home. The combination of warm spices, citrus fruits, and herbs will make your house smell cozy all through the fall and winter season.

Notes

  • For a stronger scent, add a few drops of orange, cinnamon, or clove essential oil.
  • Store in an airtight container or mason jar for a couple days to let the fragrance develop.
  • Optional additions include bay leaves, rosemary sprigs, lavender flowers, or fresh cranberries for a festive touch.
  • Refresh the scent anytime by gently stirring the mixture or adding a small amount of essential oil.
  • Display in open bowls or pretty jars to fill your home with natural, cozy aromas.
  • Makes a thoughtful homemade gift for friends, teachers, or neighbors during the holiday season.
